More OU Win Fun

A lot out there so let's keep going.

Start with watching the KState highlights if you haven't yet. Or even if you have it's fun to watch them again. And again.  You have to absolutely love Klein's TD run virtually untouched into the end zone at the 1:31 mark.  An amazing play that shows just how unstoppable we are the the goal line as he just patiently waits for his 6 total blocks that make that play happen.  Awesome stuff.

Remember that play Sproles ran a few years ago @Nebraska where he pulled the defender into the end zone who was grabbing on to his jersey?  I kinda felt like the Hubert TD run at the 2:23 mark had the makings of that.  Not so much that he drug a defender in for 6, but just his determination to score on that play was fantastic.  He absolutely schools #21 Wort.
----------------------------------------------
If you don't like GoEmaw's elite breakdown of "empty backfield success" against the Sooners, you might like one from a slightly OU perspective.  This one is actually from Barking Carnival, which is supposedly unbiased but this has a decidedly Sooner feel to it.  Anyone else notice OU didn't blitz once in the game?  I missed that, even on my third time through the game via Big-12-No-Huddle.  Now THAT is a way to watch a game (for the third time).

I do like the fact that he says when we trot 5 WR's out he calls it the "Urban Meier inspired Spread Attack."  That's right. Our offense. With Klein. Being compared to Florida's. With Urban Meier at the helm.  Now you can OFFICIALLY say this team has arrived.

Weird Robert also agrees this team has arrived
and let's you know via his universally loved "L" hand signal.
----------------------------------------------
Matt Hayes and the Sporting News continue to sing the praises of Snyder and the Wildcats.  The story never ever gets tiring.  Not any ground breaking journalism here, and they rehash the same sound bites anyone covering this story tends to toss out, but still great nonetheless.  (Stick around for the George W. Bush impression at the end.)
Look everyone it's a random Lou Holtz tweet.
----------------------------------------------
This is pretty nice local Manhattan website for KMAN 1350am and their PowerCat Gameday program.  Klein speaks to being in the Heisman race and Arthur Brown talks about the biggest hit of his career.

----------------------------------------------
Because we never shy away from Heisman hype here at Purple Koolaid, I wanted you all to be aware that Klein is up to #2 in some polls in the Heisman watch.  And that's saying something, considering:
Chris Huston, A.K.A. ‘The Heisman Pundit‘, is a Heisman voter and the creator and publisher of Heismanpundit.com, a site dedicated to analysis of the Heisman Trophy and college football. Dubbed “the foremost authority on the Heisman” by Sports Illustrated, HP is regularly quoted or cited during football season in newspapers across the country. He is also a regular contributor on sports talk radio and television.
----------------------------------------------
But wait, it gets better.

Todd McShay breaks down the Heisman race, and just look to see who he's got leading the way.  It's too bad this video cuts out RIGHT when he makes this selection, but are you all really absorbing the fact that Klein is considered a TOP 5 PLAYER in the country right now?

I am in the 3rd layer of #Inception seeing this.
----------------------------------------------
Random KState Fan tweet.
----------------------------------------------
I want to like this video and song.  But I'm driven insane listening to this.
This video has potential if it wasn't accompanied by one of the most annoying
songs of all time.  If you hear it at a tailgate you are obligated to run over
and turn it off and yell " You'll thank me later!" as you run off.
----------------------------------------------
In a sign of good things to come, our little vball team beat West Virginia to earn their first conference victory of the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Mountaineers to move to 14-1.  They currently sit at #15.

OU Recap

Reading through all the articles, videos, fan pictures, tweets, and YouTube videos out there after the Greatest Win in the Last Decade (GWLD) and taking in all the post-win euphoria is a bit like drinking through a sugary kool-aid filled fire hose.

Thankfully you have me to help distill it all down for you in one ACTION PACKED BLOG with only the finest grade of Kansas State Wildcat information.  That's platinum level, folks.

Let's begin with a couple shots.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.  What?  You haven't ordered your SHIRT yet?
Hey, pretty great shirt!  Pick me up one!

Never mind.
So many things wrong with this I'm not sure where to begin:
  • We don't need a shirt for this game. Seriously.  Championship/Bowl game shirts only please with scores on them.  Next thing you know they'll be making shirts about wins over teams in a particular state.  Wait ...
  • "What A Game!  Football."  My graphic designer brother is losing sleep over the stylistic choices employed here.
  • I count four fonts. Four. (See above about sleepless brother.)
  • Description:  "You never had a doubt that your Wildcats would keep the hard-hitting gridiron action going full force during their Week 4 match-up against the Oklahoma Sooners, and Kansas State sure didn't let you down!"  Who wrote this?  WHO WROTE THIS?  Answer me, Currie!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.  Some fantastic images from the game:
Could this be our 2011 4th down @ Miami moment of 2012?
#optimus
It's probably not pure elation on Snyder's face, but I do like this photo, no
matter what's he thinking.
Here's to you #LynchMob
I like this one because I took it.
And Erin is in it. *cough*
Vai Lutui and BJ Finney.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.  My helmet sticker goes to the offensive line.
I couldn't find a KSU helmet with a sticker on it so
you'll have to imagine one on here somewhere.
Yes, the D-Line played big.  Zimmerman was all over the field.  Hubert had 130 yards.  Klein played great.  Doerr was deadly.  But an absolutely incredible performance by an otherwise unrecognized group in what might of been the best OL performance in the Snyder 2.0 era. How unrecognized? Name an offensive lineman other than BJ Finney. Seriously. Not you addicted KSU message board reader guy. I'm talking to you, the "casual" K-State fan.

They didn't bullrush for 350 yards rushing.  They didn't go penalty free.  They didn't pancake block the Sooner tackles over and over again.

What does stand out, however, was against a relentless Sooner pass rush, they didn't allow a single sack.  When they needed a short first down, they gave Klein and Hubert the room to get it.  When Klein needed critical time in the pocket, they gave it to him to make the throws.  It was just fantastic and outside of one holding call, there were no false starts, no delay of games (on purpose), no mis-blocks, no Klein getting his head taken off by a blitzing DB.  Just an overall solid, solid performance in a hostile environment where communication I'm sure was incredibly difficult.

How big was the performance?  According this online newspaper's KSTATE Summer preview, our OLine was going be young, and a work in progress from the beginning:
The new names begin to show up at offensive line. Three of last season’s starters graduated, and Manase Foketi, a would-be starter at left tackle, left the program in the off-season. Suddenly K-State has only 27 starts among its returning linemen, 25 of which come from senior LG Nick Puetz and sophomore C B.J. Finney. Both are excellent—Finney is a Rimington award hopeful; but they’re surrounded by young players. (Kind of like TCU’s line, come to think of it.)
Redshirt freshmen Boston Stiverson and Cody Whitehair fill out the right side of the line; junior Cornelius Lucas may start at left tackle; or perhaps it’ll be JUCO transfer Tavon Rooks. JUCO transfer Ellwood Clement may figure in, as might junior Keenan Taylor. This squad is still a work in progress, and is the weakest link on the team. How the group gels will matter, and early—the Wildcats travel to OU in September.
And let's not forget Puetz is still out. I would say we've answered THAT bell in a big way.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. This is jaw dropping analysis by GoEmaw.com.

I love statistical breakdowns, and they have put together just an incredible write-up.  I can only wish I had this kind of time and insight on my hands.

Complete with YouTube videos!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.  Hey, where's Klein in the Heisman race NOW?

CBSSports says, still @ #5. That's good enough to get him to New York.  And that's good enough for me. (for now, of course.) We run the conference table and no less than a win for Mr. Klein would be an absolute disgrace.

Also, from the Kansas City Star:
• Geno Smith, West Virginia QB: He’s thrown for 1,072 yards and 12 touchdowns with no interceptions for the No. 9 Mountaineers, 3-0, who play host to K-State on Oct. 20. Smith has also rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown in 16 carries.
• Braxton Miller, Ohio State QB: Has run for seven touchdowns (averaging 6.6 yards per carry) and thrown for seven (with two interceptions) for the No. 14 Buckeyes, 4-0.

• De’Anthony Thomas, Oregon RB:Averaging 11 yards per carry (276 yards and four touchdowns) and 12.7 yards per catch (165 yards and three scores) for the No. 2 Ducks, 4-0.

• Collin Klein, K-State QB: Completing 70 percent of his passes (56 of 80 for 758 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions) and averaging 4.6 yards per carry (289 rushing yards and five touchdowns)

6.  This. Video. Is. Awesome.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.  Someone needs to make a song to this Wyatt Thompson KSU vs. OU stream of consciousness.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8.  Here's a Sooner fan broadcasting live from his mom's basement about the game. Pretty sure this summarizes about 98% of the OU fanbase after this loss.

See, this video is only truly meaningful ... when you see his first video ... before the game. (NSFW because of language -- and being a complete idiot.)

Also summarizes 98% of the OU fanbase prior to kickoff.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9.  Speaking of the Mask, here's his post-game video.  Total genius.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10.  I always like it when Stewart Mandel writes something complimentary about our Wildcats.  And he doesn't disappoint here:
Klein, meanwhile, has rarely looked more comfortable as a passer. He came in completing nearly 73 percent of his passes. He didn't quite hit that mark Saturday, finishing 13-of-21 for 149 yards, but he never had a turnover and was never sacked. If Klein, who rushed for an FBS-quarterback record 27 touchdowns last season, wasn't already in the Heisman conversation, he certainly should be now.
"Their offense is very sophisticated, way beyond the normal eye could ever imagine," said Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops. "They are persistent and they execute very well  and that makes them who they are."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, this season is creating a lot of future list opportunities for me.  Here's a current list of future lists in list form:
  • Top Snyder Players: Where will Klein, Brown, Hubert, Walker, Malone, Lockett, Cantele, and Doerr rank by the end of 2012 in the list of top 50 players of all time?
  • Top Snyder Wins:  Where does Saturday's win in Norman rank in the Top wins in the Sndyer era?
  • Top Snyder QB's:  With his win over OU in Norman, where does #Optimus Klein now rank among Snyder's signal callers over the past 23 years?
  • Top Snyder RB's:  As he continues to notch 100 yard performances, where will Hubert end his career and how will he fall in the KSU history books?
  • Top Snyder LB's:  Would the #Predator make the Top 10 list ... right now ... after only having played 16 games for the Cats?
  • Top Snyder WR's:   Will TLockett be good enough to crack the Top 10 when all is said and done?  Don't forget ... he's just a sophomore.
  • Top Snyder DB/Safeties:  Nigel Malone and Ty Zimmerman are good.  Real good. How do they fair against the Top Corner's of the last 20 years?
As you can see, lots of future debates ahead regarding this incredible team of talent Snyder has assembled his second time around.

And two weeks to prepare for ku.

#Life is good!

College Gameday Klein Interview

See entire interview here.

'Bald Man on Campus' Scott Van Pelt visits with QB Collin Klein on College Gameday.
"I have heard of him.  I think very highly of him.  Tough, smart, competitor, winner. I've always rooted for him because of how he's carried himself and wills it to happen. Tell him I'm rooting for him" -- Tim Tebow

OU Preview

Front and Center at ESPN!  Go now before you miss it (and the associated video.)

By the time you read this,
this probably won't be the main page of CFB anymore.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This week has beaten me.

The one week that I want to read up on the game, watch old school Kansas State vs. Oklahoma videos, and pour over the pundits predictions and insights on the big game, is the one week I've been stuck at work working on deadlines for work in China (and they don't care about college football.)

Dat Nguyen cared about college football.  But he was Vietnamese.
I keep trying to convince myself our 1st half woes against both Missouri State and North Texas was Snyder staying close to the vest and running basic vanilla plays, but the more I think about it the more I'm convinced that's really not the case.  I think North Texas was just a hard game for us to get up for.  And sandwiched between Miami and OU will do that to you.  Even my own personal, stronger dosage of koolaid won't quite let me believe we are going to unleash some kind of ridiculous offensive or defensive scheme we haven't practiced live and at full game speed all year.

Will there be a few new plays?  Absolutely. Look for the Wildcat to be a bigger part of our offense. Look for a few reverses to Lockett and/or Thompson.  Snyder might unveil a more substantial emphasis on the TE.    But somehow, knowing Snyder, he'll let Klein manage this thing from beginning to end and won't put the ball in too many other hands but his.  And that's the way we all want it to play out anyway.

But, if you don't think we have a shot, well you're no expert.  This expert tells it straight up, and I like what this man is drinking:

One question for all the guru's out there -- why are we playing 10-12 yards off every receiver we face? How can we possibly hope to contain OU with such an incredibly soft cushion?  I understand we are trying to avoid the big play.  And certainly so far this year, we've managed to avoid giving up a lot of plays over 20 yards ... and that plays into this notion of a bend, but don't break defense.

But I see Stoops salivating over that amount of space within to work with Landry and his flight of WR's and exploiting that. If you see our DB's move up to the line of scrimmage play a slightly more aggressive bump and run, we'll know that in true Snyder fashion, he did in fact save a little something extra for Bobby.  My gut tells me it's not going to happen.

But what will happen is a win  At least according to expert #2.

In terms of national media coverage, I felt like this was an outstanding, honest assessment of the game from Sports Illustrated.
Even with Klein leading the way, Kansas State doesn't have the firepower Oklahoma does. When Jones, Stills and running back Damien Williams (259 rushing yards, five touchdowns so far) are clicking, the Sooners can become a nightmare to stop -- particularly for a defense that's yet to face a multifaceted attack.

"We understand that Landry Jones is a great quarterback," said Brown. "And he has a lot of great guys around him to complement him. We just have to do a better job at focusing on the things that we accomplish in order to make stops and be successful."

That's easier said than done. And it's even harder to do in Norman. The Sooners are 13-0 in home conference openers under Stoops, outscoring opponents by an average of 22.6 points. They're a remarkable 78-3 at Memorial Stadium since Stoops took over in 1999; that trend doesn't seem likely to change anytime soon.

But expect the Wildcats to make it close. And no matter the outcome, look for Klein to add to his growing Heisman profile -- a resume that could receive an outpouring of support if Kansas State finds a way to pull off an upset.

"We're gonna play hard for four quarters, and regardless of what happens, we'll go from there," said Klein. "We're just trying to become the best that we can be. This is a great opportunity to continue that."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You never get tired of reading about the awesomeness of Klein, and neither do I.  Deep down, I honestly think Klein could be Snyder's favorite player of all-time.  (That's a list for another blog entry, but you have to think some version of Sproles, Newman, Simoneau, and Klein all work interchangeably within that list.  Maybe K. Lockett, too. I'll have to put some research into that one.

So to that end, here's ol' Sean Salisbury's video take on the Heisman Race, as well as a brilliant article on the toughness Klein brings to the table, and what he means to Snyder.
There are reasons Kirk Herbstreit calls Klein the “toughest player in all of college football—no doubt about it.” They probably don’t have much to do with Klein’s elbows. They may not even have much to do with the cartilage that was bruised in his sternum in the Oklahoma game last season, or the right (throwing) shoulder that was separated vs. Oklahoma State, or the ribs that were bruised vs. Texas A&M, or the damaged bursa sac in his ankle that pained him on so many runs throughout the year. These are injuries that Klein preferred to keep quiet about, not for strategic reasons but because of who he is.
“I don’t think I’m going to miss him, because I’m not going to leave him,” Snyder says. “He and I will always be close. I will certainly have an emotional attachment to him, wherever he is. I think a lot of us here at Kansas State will.”
Very strong stuff, to be sure (and yes, I'll get started on that top 10 Snyder Players of All Time List (T10SPATL) eventually.  Maybe when the year is over and we see where Mr. Klein and Arthur Brown factor in.

I liked the production value of this KstateFans video. They are basically taking one of the top #16 Snyder values and applying it to each game with highlights. Very well done. Obviously taking a few losses will take the edge and shine off these videos a bit, but since we aren't having any losses this season we don't have to worry about that, do we?

Finally, are you in to stats?  I mean, really into stats?

Under The Hood via the Sooners Rivals has a nice comprehensive breakdown of  every offensive set for every single play from North Texas   Although ultimately they are predicting "favorable matchups" across the boards for themselves, I'm impressed by the effort.  It's something I would do and write about it if, you know, it was my job and everything.

Too bad they didn't analyze the Miami game instead.  Maybe then their match-ups wouldn't look so rosy.

So with that, you'll get no prediction here just because this is a complete toss up.  OU has the greater athletes at almost every position, but then again, they had us supposedly over matched at every position in 2003 as well.  And we all know what the mad scientist Snyder can do with a game plan and a motivated group of players.

Let's just hope this magical season takes a big step forward Saturday.

NORTHTEXAS -- Recap

Yes, North Texas was tougher than expected.

I missed the first quarter, but an untimely fumble by Hubert as we were driving to score probably changed the momentum quite a bit.  Our tackling improved in the 2nd half and we did enough without putting too much on film to pull out the 2 TD victory.

Watch the North Texas highlights from KStateHD and the post game from the Mask:

How is Klein doing in his pursuit for the Heisman?  With M. Barkley for USC taking a loss this early in the season, the focus has appeared to shift towards G. Smith out of WV.  But, CBS Sports still ranks Klein at #6 (and climbing):
6. Collin Klein, QB, Kansas State -- There's something about Klein that makes him an appealing candidate. A friend of mine commented on the oddity of his throwing motion during Saturday's 35-21 K-State win over North Texas, but he was forced to admit that he still gets the job done. No other player in college football seems to succeed by the same kind of sheer will that Klein does
On the season he is completing 73 percent of his passes -- a huge improvement over last year -- with 609 yards and five touchdowns to go with 210 rushing yards and four scores. He's on pace to have 2,436 passing yards, 840 rushing yards and 36 total touchdowns. He'll have to improve those numbers quite a bit, but I think he's likely to do so as he gets into a groove against more able competition. A hard-nosed leader on an underdog team, Klein has a chance to become the sentimental favorite for the award as the season wears on.
Klein scores one of this three TD's on the day (2 passing, 1 rushing).
With a win over OU this week, I would think Klein could move into the top 3.  It will be tough to unseat Smith if he continues to put up the PlayStation numbers, however. The one thing that WOULD do it ... a  KSU win in Morgantown.

Lockett's big return also garned enough attention to earn him BigXII Special Teams Player of the Week:
Tyler Lockett, KR/WR, Kansas State: With K-State trailing, 7-0, Lockett returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, giving him three for his career and helping K-State beat North Texas, 35-21. He finished with 119 yards on his two kickoff returns, and needs just two more touchdowns to tie the school record of five, set by Brandon Banks.
Lockett does it again vs. the Mean Green, set up for a left side return with perfect blocking.
Red Hat guy looks on in dismay.
Check out this Lockett HS interview video -- great stuff from the young superstar in May 2011 --

And the Predator?  Even injured, hobbled by an ankle injury, Brown still lead the team with a team high 13 tackles, pushing his season total to 28.  As one fan on Twitter observed after the game:
"We've got one guy with one foot, and 10 guys with two feet, and the guy with one foot is making all the tackles." #beastmode
This is ABJr. destroying another hapless victim.
And check this out from Sports Illustrated from last week that I missed:  Arthur Brown stock continues to rise in the eyes of the NFL.  Gotta love this:
"Brown plays like a first round choice and is a three down defender that can be used in a variety of systems at the next level."
Finally, I know this is a football blog for football fans, but our women's volleyball team has quietly ascended to elite status as well, earning a near top 10 ranking with their big wins this weekend in the Golden Hurricane Classic in Tulsa.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – After winning the Golden Hurricane Classic and defeating two ranked teams in the process this weekend, the K-State volleyball team has climbed eight spots in the latest AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll to No. 11. The Wildcats were the big movers this week in the poll and it marks the highest ranking for K-State since being ranked No. 11 on Nov. 26, 2007.
Go #volleycats.

NORTHTEXAS -- Pregame

I'll admit it. This is a tough one to get up for.

It's the Mean Green Fighting Texas Eagles everyone.
Yes, the North Texas Mean Green are just 30 miles from here.  Yes, ... on any given Saturday (see Sacramento State, Louisiana Monroe, ... even Rice, although not much of an upset over kansas) anything can happen.

And, yes, they ARE rated #7 in the state of Texas.  At least according to Rant Sports ...  rated just under #6 Texas State.

But, the fact is, we should be seeing a lot of Daniel Sams and Sam Johnson in this one if we play this game the way we should.  It's unfortunate we won't have had a little stiffer test heading into Oklahoma, who will have had two weeks to prepare for KSU to coming to town.

If you're really into stats, you can see the statistical comparison between both the Mean Green and Kansas State.  I was actually shocked to see our rushing attack at #6 in the country right now. Impressive indeed.  Klein is also checking in with a #12 rated passing efficiency and we are #8 in scoring offense at 51.8.  Punt returns is #3 and Turnover Margin #8 (+2).

The last time KSU was in town vs North Texas (2010) we traveled out to Denton to see the last game of the Wildcat season and watched Carson Coffman barely eek out a win in the last game at Fouts Field.  It was game to forget.  Daniel Thomas rushed for 269 yards that day.  Lance Dunbar, 270 (That was the leftover defense Snyder inherited from Prince.)

In their season opener, North Texas didn't fair particularly well against LSU.  You can see the ESPN highlights here and what you'll see is LSU rolling up 29 first downs to NTX's 6, and over 500 yards of total offense (316 rushing).  Klein and company should have a field day on the ground and I'm betting Snyder adds just enough wrinkles to keep Stoops busy for the next week without giving too much away.  I've even willing to bet he puts a lot of stuff out there he has NO intention running against the Sooners.  The more he can put on film, the more the Sooners will be left guessing.

North Texas LB Zach Orr:
"(Klein) throws like a quarterback, runs like a tailback and around the goal line, he turns into a fullback." #optimusklein
Roll out, Wildcats.
Also, if you google purple optimus prime, you can actually find one online:

This is not really Optimus Prime but 99.9% of you won't know the difference.
Or even care there IS a difference.
(It's Nemesis Prime, thank you very much.)
And yes, this music is a little too dramatic and not fast paced enough (nor is it set to the Transformers Movie OR Cartoon theme), but I didn't think this Optimus Klein highlight package was too bad:

Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't post the Mask's latest on this upcoming game:

Finally, take a listen to this radio talk show host of out of Miami after their defeat to the Cats. Talk about someone who has completely lost it. See, this is what happens when a "storied program" gets beat by Kansas State: complete meltdown.

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

For the fans, by the fans.

You might be reading this and wondering how you can get involved in expressing your Wildcat spirit like me and many of your fellow Cat fans out there.  This is after all, going to be one of the best seasons in KSU history.  Are you just going to sit there and let it pass you by?  Are you just going to casually follow this epic march to the National Championship while records fall and legends are born?

No, you're not.  You need an outlet just like I do.  So, the way I see it, you've really got several choices to consider.

1) Start your own KSU news magazine and online empire like Tim Fitzgerald at GoPowercat.

2) Start your own viral online presence and hope it takes off like my new favorite celebrity (here doing his Miami post game video):

3) Start your own blog and write about Kansas State in hopes that people find your content funny and entertaining and then recruit people to follow you.

4) Skip all of the above and donate your time, energy, photos, videos, and general fandom to Purple Koolaid as a guest contributor and be recognized on one of the nation's fastest growing KSU websites.

In all seriousness, I want this to be a fun place for you to get your KSU fix as little or as often as you like, and doing that takes a lot of work.  I know many of you have access to resources that I don't, and you attend functions, games, pep rally's, auctions, Cat Backer events, etc. and can offer some great material to the cause.

You will always be recognized by name (unless you want to donate anonymously), and we can continue to build an interactive blog built by the very fans who enjoy what Kansas State is all about.

To that end, feel free to start sending in information.  I won't use everything.  I may not use anything.  But I can almost guarantee there's enough fans out there who read this who would have some pretty amazing stories to tell, photos to share, and videos to watch we'd all find interesting.

Even now, as you read this, you're thinking to yourself, you're dang right I've got some good stuff.  And I've always needed a forum to share it.  This is that forum.  And the more creative, the better.

First person who donates material that gets posted gets to be the first person who donates material that gets posted.

And I might throw in a free steak + a Growel Towel.

The Manhattan Project

The Friday night prior to the season opener, we had a chance to get a personal tour of the locker room facilities, weight room, trophy room, and coaches offices, by Lauren, marketing major extraordinaire.

She probably had friends to meet and be--, soda, to drink out in Aggieville that night, but nonetheless she patiently took our family through the inner workings of the KSU Football facility and allowed our kids the chance to see some of the things I've been excited about seeing for a long time. (I also got Klein's autograph in case you missed my first blog post.)

Although I couldn't get access to Snyder's office as requested, I was able to smuggle in a secret spy cam in to take a few photos.  Here's a behind the scenes of one of the nations' most top secret facilities.

This is my undercover secret photo of my father-in-law Mike and Lauren.
This is Sydney contemplating attending KSU upon graduating
HS when tuition will only be up to $34,349 a year.
Postcard Shot of the Day (PSOD).
We only got through #4 before Erynn found the Mens Locker room.
"Many believe this is Kyle Williams," Lauren informed the group.
We all smiled and nodded knowingly.
"Damn right it is!" I shouted and no one smiled or nodded.
I stole Klein's mouthguard after this photo was secretly taken.
Note Brown is not chasing anything like Klein.  Ironic?  (Gloves).
Here are the kids running out on the field through the tunnel smoke.
I asked Lauren what happened to the tunnel smoke and she said something
about it being a "dumb Ron Prince thing Snyder got rid of."
This is a fantastic quote found on the weight room wall.
Epic photo outside of Snyder's office.
My Bishop jersey does not look as good as this -- it's also an XXL.
I sort of look like I'm wearing Bishop's pajamas when
I wear it around the house.

MIAMI -- Saturday Recap

There are so many story lines from today it's hard to keep track of them all. For one brilliant Saturday, the stars have aligned so perfectly it's almost an embarrassment of riches for Kansas State. This is what college football, and Snyder's doctrine of disciplined, sound, consistent football, is all about.

So let's take a pictorial tour around the horn to wrap up this incredible day for our #21 ranked (and moving up) Wildcats --

10:45 -- Willie gets the fans going on Harley Day.
10:59 -- KSU students with a fantastic #16 Goals tribute prior to kickoff.
11:00 - 12:30 Optimus Klein was unstoppable.
12:40 - Kansas State recognizes Erik Kynard,
Olympic silver medalist at halftime.
12:41 -- I finally download Instagram and turn out an award
winning photo on the first take.
12:52 -- K-State Mask spotted at BSFS.
1:02 pm on 03/08/2010 -- Michael Smith lands his biggest recruit.  Ever.
1:40 -- Daniel Sams #4 scores on his first carry of the game.
2:30 -- Rice defeats kansas at home because kansas seriously blows.
3:30 - Florida defeats A&M at home.
Gator cheerleaders say it all:  pity, mockery ... disgust.
6:02 -- Sacramento State beats Colorado and no one really cares
because it's Colorado.
8:30 -- Georgia defeats Missouri.  Because Missouri also blows.
And so do their ridiculous new uniforms.
8:45 -- These are still ridiculous.
9:30 -- The Bruins defeat the Huskers.
So, in summary of today's events:

Klein is still unstoppable and was nearly perfect aside from the behind the back pass to Harper Snyder actually called a time out to call. I suppose that would of made the Heisman highlight reel in NY later this year if they'd actually pulled that off.

Sams might be the fastest KSU QB in history. No, he is the fastest QB in KSU history. Current KSU stats -- Six carries. 108 yards. 3 TD's.

The College Football Gods declared this day to be Black Saturday for all of the defectors of the BigXII, slamming Colorado, Nebraska, A&M, and Missouri back to cold reality -- life is not going to be greener on the other side.

The Charlie Weis era at kansas is off to a thud with a humiliating loss to Rice. Somewhere Turner Gill is laughing.

KSU will likely move up several spots, if not into the top 15, with a dominating performance everyone in the nation was watching due to the early start.

A great day to be a Wildcat!
